This secondary stage deploys a sophisticated, high-performance, precision-extruded block of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC). The highly porous carbon architecture, derived from meticulously processed organic sources, is optimized for a comprehensive 5-micron (µm) mechanical filtration of remaining fine sediment and carbon fines. Critically, its extensive internal surface area is dedicated to a powerful, selective adsorption process that eliminates volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that affect human health and the aesthetic quality of water. The GAC block achieves the comprehensive reduction of taste-and-odor (T&O) precursors, particularly focused on removing up to 99% of residual chlorine and harmful chlorination by-products, including Trihalomethanes (THMs). The solid block configuration minimizes the risk of bypass channel formation, ensuring complete chemical reduction of pesticides, industrial solvents, and pharmaceutical contaminants before the water reaches subsequent purification stages.
